The Encounter Group understands the concept of ministering to the whole person. Our medical program was established to do just that through its own clinics and fully operational surgical suites.
Groups that include a licensed physician can be involved with health screenings and treatment of patients. Many diseases are very prevalent among the poor, including scabies, chronic malnutrition, intestinal worms, venereal diseases, etc.
Groups traveling without a licensed physician can be involved in distribution of vitamins, Tylenol, tooth brushes, tooth paste, pre-natal and multi-vitamins, and children’s over-the-counter medication. This type of clinic is very important. For example, availability, of even a few weeks supply of prenatal vitamins during pregnancy is extremely important to the unborn child, helping to avoid birth defects.
By prior arrangement, medications can be taken internationally for distribution. Each prepackaged box weighs approximately 70 pounds and contains a variety of medications, including antibiotics, analgesics, worming medications, cortisone and anti-fungal creams and vitamins. The retail value of each box of medication is about $4000 and can be purchased for about $400 each. These medications do need to be dispensed under a physicians oversight.
We currently offer 5 unique opportunities in the field of international medical missions:
• Village and Refugee camp clinics
• Specialized Surgery for the poor in sterilized surgical suites
• Inner City clinics
• Dental
• Ophthalmology
